FLOWERS Episode 8

Flower of Whatchamacallit (フラワー・オブ・なんちゃら)

February, 27th 2024

Quick review this week but let's go. Firstly this episode was a lower budget one so drawing inconsistencies are everywhere.

Gakko and Namaha keep being the cutest ever and their seiyuu SLAY!!! Then we get some powerpoint scenes but Alumi's entrance is WOWS! I can't get enough of her flying and flapping her helmet wings, it's just so cool (and I imagine how cool would it be for some scenes if they put in some more effort but alas...)

So we get team presentation AND NAMAHA'S FANGIRL SCREAM DFJGHFDG and then Yohane shows up out of nowhere, not even showing him running... But then there's something super strange when Alumi says he's one of their teammates, because her expression is completely off, smiling while saying it??? Did they make Alumi softer on purpose? They removed the "Even though I'm not happy about it" and the "let go off Hana" dialogue and made her smile... I don't mind that and I'm actually happy if she becomes less harsh, but I think it would have been better if she kept a serious expression there because we all know she's still neutral about Yohane.

HANA'S CUTEST FACE GETTING FLUSTERED, he's so excited about the FoM...

And then maize.

AND THEN YOSUKE???? AND THEN PATCH VILLAGE HORROR

AND THEN WE GET A WHOLE SCENE OF MEN ARRIVING AND OH MY GOD HIS VOICEEEEEEEEEEEE IT'S PERFECT!!!!!!! I WAS SO SCARED because the trailer didn't sound all that good and I was afraid we'd get another remake!Ren Tao situationship here BUT WE'RE SAVED and Paku Romi did and amazing work, nailed it with the soft, calm and higher pitched tone... I'm more excited for Men than I ever was...

Y-Yosuke... YOSUKE AT PATCH VILLAGE??????? WITH RAPT!??????? TSS CONFIRMED??? *takes screenshots like a deranged goblin*

And now we're back at the onsen and... bruh why they drew Tamao like that... don't they follow the settei anymore...

Anyway, more explanation of FoM (though we still don't know who's who in Team Hao???)

And Gakko's miracle wish! That we all ignored just like Hana did and it came back to surprise us six years later.
I don't like how they storyboarded that scene, or the next one... In the Gakko reveal the full shot was awkward, and during Hana's introspective moment the close up were too awkward too and didn't convey the moment of thinking or the wind (should have been full shots).

AND THEN MEN'S MANSLAUGHTER BUT I'M TOO DISTRACTED BY HIS PERFECT VOICE. When it had the echo it felt SO nostalgic... I felt transported back to 2003... God I love Shaman King so much.

I was expecting the episode to end with the view of the blood stained camera but they just black screened it lmao small disappointment...

And now the speedrun towards the ending begins... Praying for the best moments to be done justice.
